CARAA has the chance to participate in an exciting study on toxic materials in the textile collections of the Galliera Museum, France
More than 270 fashion objects … from the museum’s collections are analyzed during 3 weeks in situ and non-invasively by XRF. The study is carried out in collaboration with Lisa-Charlotte LARDEAU and Camille LALLEMAND.
Initially focusing on the search for mercury or arsenic in clothing and accessories from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, the study also concern, by extension, other potential candidates (books, prints, boxes, conservation products, etc. ) and other potential inorganic elements .
Therfore, tin and lead fillers added to the silk at the expense of their conservation as well as the mordants and salts used during the dyeing process are also studied.
More than 1000 individual SFX spectra will be acquired and processed during these weeks of analysis!!
