{"id":8041,"date":"2019-12-01T09:45:25","date_gmt":"2019-12-01T07:45:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caraa.fr\/les-ceramiques-et-les-verres1-2\/"},"modified":"2022-07-11T12:02:39","modified_gmt":"2022-07-11T10:02:39","slug":"glass-and-ceramics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caraa.fr\/en\/glass-and-ceramics\/","title":{"rendered":"Glass and Ceramics"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5>The analysis of artworks made of ceramics or glass consist first in the study of the matrix: the distribution of the grains in a porcelain, in a clay preparation, etc.<\/h5>\n<p>Elemental analyzes (e.g ICP-MS, ICP-AES, EDS, XRF, &#8230;) are mainly used to characterize the major elements (silica, fluxes, modifiers), minors (e.g. coloring oxides) and trace elements.<\/p>\n<p>The different imaging techniques (e.g multispectral, X-Ray, &#8230;) can also be used to highlight the conservation status in the bulk of the object (repairs, additions) or at the surface (recent patina, &#8230;).<\/p>\n<p>Dating: The materials used for surface colouring or for bulk colouring of these artworks can be used to indirectly date the manufacturing of the object and point out any incoherence in the presumed period.<\/p>\n<p>Direct dating methods are also possible on these types of material.
